As an illustrious former Osasuna player, Cuéllar's opinion was highly valued in the run-up to the cup final against Real Madrid. 'El Periódico de España' published, before the match, a column by Carlos: 'El título que se merece la afición rojilla'.
"Michael Robinson said that 'Osasuna is soul, soul and more soul' and it seems to me a perfect definition. Being Osasuna is all about soul," wrote a member of the 2005 Copa del Rey finalists: "It's been 18 years and, honestly, I think all our fans have come of age. Those who cried with us at the now defunct Vicente Calderón deserve a joy worthy of their loyalty".
