Carlos Cuellar looks to be on his way out of Aston Villa after bidding a fond farewell to fans on Twitter following Sunday's final match at Villa Park.
Cuellar’s four-year contract expires at the end of the season and despite talks between the club and his representatives he has yet to be offered a new deal.
The 30-year-old Spaniard has become a popular figure with the claret and blue faithful since signing from Rangers for £7.8 million in August 2008.
Cuellar has not enjoyed as many first team opportunuties as he would have liked and the centre-half has often filled in out of position at right-back.
He took to Twittter shortly after this afternoon’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham to express his relief that Villa have virtually secured their Premier League safety.
Cuellar tweeted: “Very happy because, after my last match at Villa Park, the team will stay one more year where it has to be. Thank you all for your support both in the good and the bad moments through all these years!”
In subsequent tweets he added: “Thank u very much for these fantastic 4 years has been an honor to be part of one of the biggest club, I will miss u forever in my heart..” and “Is one of the saddest days thank u to support me everyday I wish u all the best”.
Cuellar will be available to leave the club on a Bosman free transfer when his contract expires.
