Real Murcia Imperial are three games away from earning promotion to Segunda Federación. First, they must finish the job against Lorca Deportiva in the second leg of the opening round. After a 0–1 away win at Artés Carrasco, a draw would be enough to see them through. Next, they would face the winner of Cieza vs. Caravaca, before a final national round.
Achieving promotion would be historic—Real Murcia’s reserve team has only managed to move up from Tercera once in its history. That was in the 2007–08 season, when José Miguel Campos led a squad that played its home games at Sánchez Cánovas in Molina de Segura. That side finished third in Group XIII and clinched promotion after defeating Tudelano in the final playoff. Notable players from that team included goalkeeper Alberto García, Quinín, Pina, Herreros, David Torres, and Aquino.
It’s worth remembering that the original “Imperial”—not yet affiliated with Real Murcia—was founded in 1924, competed in Segunda in 1939, and disappeared in 1993. That same year, the current Real Murcia B was established. It remains the only reserve side of the club to have played two seasons in Segunda B.B.
