Carlos Cuellar says Sunderland will have to cope with an aerial assault from Stoke tonight.
However, the Spanish centre-back insists there is more to Stoke than physicality alone, pointing out players such as his old Glasgow Rangers team-mate Charlie Adam provide the skill to complement the Potters’ power.
“I played with him at Rangers and he has a wonderful left foot, a real touch of quality, and a club like Liverpool does not come in for you unless you are a top player, which is what Charlie is.
Cuellar says it is up to Sunderland to make sure there is no repeat. He added: “It is in our hands to make sure there is no repeat of Aston Villa".
Cuellar said: “Stoke is one of the most important games of our season – no question – so much is now riding on it.
“If we win, we may not be automatically safe, but in our minds we will be because 40 points with our goal difference – if we are not 100% safe then maybe 99%.”
