Carlos Cuéllar who´s about to start his career at Almería, has it clear: "The aim is to return to the top flight, there are many players with an extensive experience and quality in La Liga, and we hope to creat a strong team. We must be where the club deserves to be".
Before the microphones at Onda Cero, the centre-back conceded his first interview as Almeria player and admits "he can help with his experience. I have been away many years, I have played in the Championship and that could be helpful", adding about Sergi Barjuán, his new coach, "he knows well both leagues La Liga and the Premier and myself, luckily, people always liked me in Spain despite all this time away".
About the reasons that led him to Andalucía, Cuellar highlighted that "a priori, Almería is one of the teams with the most solid planning. People who have been here has recommended me and told me that It would be like be at home", recalling that "I´m an experienced player with many years playing in other leagues and they wanted a centre-back that will strengthen the defence to receive the least number of goals". Looking back at all the progress achieved in England, the defender did not hesitate to say that "I would go back in time and live the experience in England again, but it has been many years and I wanted to return. I told my agent that the priority was to return to Spain. I had other offers from English teams at first, but I declined all and I delayed things to come to La Liga".
Active on social networks and his web, Cuellar thinks is important "to be close to the fans. I learned in England the respect from the supporter and I like them to see me as one more, as a person like them. We have our problems, like anybody else", adding that" it seems that the player only trains an hour and do nothing else, but we're on 24 hours. It is very important what you eat, the rest ... I try to show in my social networks my live as a professional on and off the pitch. It is not as easy as people think".
About his vegan condition, Carlos reveals that "after too much research and after working with doctors and nutritionists, I realised is a beneficial diet, I tried it and it worked, the reactions has been very good. I follow the doctors orders and even here maybe it's a little harder, I´ll try to make the most of it so you can see it on the pitch".
Finally, taking stock of his time in the UK, he has no doubt that it was good. "The first years were better, but every year I got the objective. Being in Europe with Aston Villa and Rangers, to save the category with Sunderland and the promotion with Norwich. It is true that there are difficult moments, like when you slip down the pecking order or you have injuries, but overall I'm very happy ".
