Stewart Downing scored the only goal in the last match of the season to give Aston Villa a 1-0 win. Their first victory at home to Liverpool since 1998.
The england winger scored his eighth goal of the season with a fine finish to ensure Aston Villa, remarkably, bade farewell to what has been a dismal season for them in ninth place.
Downing finished superbly at the back post in the 33rd minute after he was picked out by a brilliant cross from Albrighton.
In the second half, Collins, substitute Gabriel Agbonlahor and Stiliyan Petrov all had chances to put the result beyond doubt as the hosts finished the stronger, with only Fabio Aurelio and Luis Suarez coming anywhere close for Liverpool.
Finally, Villa celebrated a hard-earned victory. The defeat ended the Liverpool's Europa League hopes.
Carlos Cuéllar didn't play.
