Andreas Weimann grabbed a dramatic late winner to claim his first Villa goal and give Alex McLeish's side their first home win since early November.
The young Austrian striker, a 71st-minute substitute for Charles N'Zogbia, broke the deadlock in stoppage time to provide a perfect conclusion to the club's Acorns Day.
And Villa's other two second half subs were also involved in the goal.
