Carlos Cuéllar started his Sunderland's career with a hard-earned goalless draw against Arsenal.
For the Gunners, Arsene Wenger included midfield recruit Santi Cazorla in his starting eleven and Lukas Podolski as forward.
The away side enjoyed much of the possession in the first half, but Sunderland were always dangerous on the break with Colback testing Szczesny from the edge of the area.
Arsenal had one late scare as Giroud through in the final moments, but the french blazed wastefully wide with only Simon Mignolet to beat.
At the end of the match Carlos Cuellar and Santi Cazorla were greeted and made some pictures. The central Sunderland put on your social networks: "Thanks very much for all your support it is a massive point for us :-)".
