Sunderland ended pre-season campaign with a 1-0 win over Midtjylland in Denmark. Marco Larsen brought an early save from Keiren Westwood but it took Johnson just six minutes to give the Black Cats the lead.
Carlos Cuéllar played the 90 minutes. The spanish defender came close to extending the lead in the final 10 minutes. but it was Stephane Sessegnon who came closest to scoring again as he hit the bar with seven minutes remaining.
It was an important victory because the danish team have won their first three matches of the Danish season, conceding just a single goal along the way.
