Carlos Cuéllar only played one season at Rangers, but still much alive in Glasgow. As a proof of this, there is Danny Wilson´s statement on the club´s web site. The centre-back of the Scottish team, who arrived this summer, says Carlos was his role model while he was growing and preparing to become a professional.
"He was a great defender that played in the Premier League for a very long time, I would say him", responded Wilson when asked about his idol at Rangers when he was a child. As a centre-back, Danny has always paid attention to players that play in the same position as him. Apart from Carlos Cuéllar, he also mentioned David Weir, the fabulous Glasgow fullback who had prolific career in the club and current member of the coaching staff. "Carlos played in the UEFA the year Rangers reached the final, so I'm choosing him", Wilson said.
In just one season, Carlos had time to play 63 matches and score 5 goals (both records in his professional career), with outstanding performances which earned him the Player of the Year award, for both the Scottish Premier League and the specialised media. For the first time in 80 years, a centre-back was honoured with that award. After a dreamed campaign, he switched to the English football. Aston Villa was awainting for him, after agreeing a 10€ millions fee for his move.
