Almería lost at home against Alavés (0-2) in a match in which they had a chance to add some points until the end. The attitude was correct but more clarity was needed during the last minutes of the game to comeback after the free kick goal from Raúl García, an ex Almería player. Carlos Cuéllar, recovered from his muscle strain, was a starter and played the whole 90 minutes.
The height of the centreback from Madrid was crucial for Almería when it came to strategy. Sergi's team need Carlos' height (190 cms) on aerial game, both while defending and attacking. His importance was seen when they cancelled Chuli's goal on the 53' after a corner kick in which Cuéllar's intervention was decisive. Just before, one of the most important parts of the match took place: Dubarbier got sent-off after receiving two yellow cards. The red card, with 0-1 on the score, was a terrible obstacle. In spite of having to compete with 10 players, Almería dominated the match, but was unable to surpass the rival's defence from Vitoria. Toquero, in stoppage time, scored the definitive 0-2.
The first defeat as locals makes them want to achieve their first away win. The next opportunity will be next Sunday against Albacete.
