Carlos Cuéllar was ambassador of the campaign 'Juega Seguro' in its presentation at La Escuela de Música y Arte in Almería. The initiative promotes the free download of the CPR11 App which gives 11 guidelines to know how to act in case of a cardiac arrest. Alongside Carlos were Almería's captain Fernando Soriano and the paralympic athlete Jairo Ruiz. The three of them are among the list of ambassadors (Sergio Ramos, José Antonio Camacho, Tiago, Figo, Kaká, Verónica Boquete, Sergio Sánchez, Rubén de la Red, Joaquín Caparrós…) of a campaign supported by FIFA and promoted by Fundación Mapfre, SEMES (Sociedad Española de Medicina de Urgencias y Emergencias), Centro Médico de Excelencia FIFA Ripoll and De Prado Sport Clinic. "It is normal that many of my fellows, international stars, institutions and clubs support this cause. It is an honour for me to do it here" said Carlos.
Cuéllar stressed how important the app is: "I knew about CPR11 from the beginning. I think is essential that in the new technological era, we live in, there are applications orientated to help society; even more if it's a tool that help to save lives". To the act, that has coincided with the European Restart a Heart Day, also attended the mayor of Almería, Luis Rogelio Rodríguez-Comendador.
"We all are exposed to a case of cardiac emergency or sudden death. That's why we have to be prepared. It happened to Puerta, Jarque or Foé despite being professional footballers and having a paramedic team just a few metres away", commented Carlos, who insisted how important is to make known everyone about the initiative: "It is our responsibility to help spread the CPR11, but more of the professional footballers. When we started playing football on the streets or football fields there were no doctors around. This campaign gives a guideline for action. With just one live that is saved, will be worth the effort".
The next two stops for 'Juega Seguro', which events are internationally known, will be Brasil (20 Oct) and Chile (25).
