Aston Villa and Birmingham City shared the points in the Midlands derby. The match was very tense and competitive, with Houllier's team finishing stronger. So, the visitors were happier with the result at the final whistle.
It was not a very brilliant game, but thrilling till the end. In the last minutes, Clark almost scored for Villa when his close-range header was only a few wide. Seconds later, Young hit the woodwork with Birmingham keeper Foster beaten.
Finally, Birmingham ended a run of six successive defeats against their local rivals.The draw left both sides in midtable, with Villa on 12 points, one more than City after 10 matches. Carlos Cuéllar saw the match in the bench.
Both teams will meet again in Carling Cup. The quarter-final ties will be played in the week beginning November 29.
