Aston Villa responded to their 3-0 defeat at Liverpool with a very convincing performance beating Midlands rivals West Brom 2-1, despite a late rally from the visitors. Carlos Cuéllar returned to play since his last match (27th october against Burnley) in a good form.
Stewart Downing and Emile Heskey provided a much-needed lift for Aston Villa as their goals earned a 2-1 victory over derby rivals West Brom at Villa Park.
Tchoyi nearly gave the visitors a lead but when his shot hit the bar of Aston Villa soon led as Stewart Downing hooked in Marc Albrighton's fine cross.
Marc Albrighton and Barry Bannan were similarly excitable, but more importantly, the constituent parts of the Villa defence worked as one.
Carlos Cuéllar and Eric Lichaj, coming in for Richard Dunne and Luke Young, showed tremendous solidity and composure.
The spanish defender was one of the best players of the match. "An absolute rock", said Aston Villa fans.
