Almería edged out Elche in the penalty shoot out, after a game full of opportunities (3-3 at the end of the extra time). Cuéllar played the full 120 minutes of a very disputed game. With this victory, Almería qualifies for the third round of La Copa del Rey that will be played in October and in a single match.
For the second time in a row, Carlos started the game. Sergi have him as an important player and, after the good performance against Osasuna, decided to keep him in the line-up. He was the only Almería player that stayed in the starting XI. This time, his couple at the centre of the defence was Míchel Zabaco.
After a quiet first half for Almería (1-0), Elche came back on the game thanks to the penalty that resulted in Zabaco sending off. That action meant the 2-2. With 10 men, the Almería defence had much work to do and hold the result until the extra time. In the extra time and after Cristian Herrera goal, Cuéllar had a decisive action to save the draw. A draw that came in the second half of the extra time and sent the match to the penalties. Finally the win stayed at home.
