A frustrating draw

Football was cruel for Carlos Cuéllar’s Almería. In the last move of the match, with the indicated time added on completed, David Concha prevented UD from securing the win following a save from Casto. After leading for virtually the entire match, Carrillo’s men had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

As was the case when they played Ponferradina, Almería opened the scoring early on. Óscar Díaz, with an own goal, made it 1-0 in the fourth minute. However, they were up against a team with resources, a team who soon began to threaten the Andalusians’ goal. In the 24th minute, Carlos Cuéllar produced his best moment of the match. The Madrid-born defender thwarted Pablo’s shot after Casto had been beaten. He prevented an equaliser and, as the game wore on, UD grew stronger.

After the break, Almería conjured up their most impressive moments of recent weeks. The team played with confidence and linked up well on several occasions, but they were unable to notch a second and in the end they paid the price. In such circumstances, Cuéllar and his defensive team-mates, along with Casto, responded well. That is until the fateful moment came, the moment when two points vanished.
